To View Albums and Pictures
Go to www.poca.com and click on the Album tab. Every POCA member has an album and unlimited sub-albums.
You can navigate down through the hierarchy albums or use the search field to find a specific album or picture.
To Share Pictures
If you want to reference your album or picture in a POCA Forum post on in an e-mail, just navigate to the album or picture then copy the URL at the top of your web browser. It should look something like this:
http://poca.com/index.php/gallery/?g2_itemId=248
To Add Pictures
Note: Although anyone can register and log into the POCA website, only POCA members can post pictures on it. Currently that is not enforced but will be in the coming months when we set up the membership services.
Content: We aim to make this web site inviting to people of all ages and walks of life. Let's keep the album content that way too.
Go to www.poca.com and login on the home page.
Click the Album tab.
On your first visit to the website, an album will be automatically created for you. It will have the same name as your user account name e.g Bob Smith.
Click on the Your Album link. (top, right side of the page).
On the left side of your album page there is a "<album actions>" menu box. Select "Add Item" from that menu. (If "Add Item" is not on the list, you probably are not logged in.)
You can now upload photos or create a sub-album. (See the next section for information about creating a sub-album.)
To upload photos, you have several options. The "Web Browser" is the best for uploading a single file. The "Upload Applet" is best for mass uploads.
- From Web Browser: browse for a file on your PC, add a caption and up load it. You can upload multiple files, but only one per line.
- From local server: not currently implemented
- Link: Create a link to an existing album or supply a URL to a picture on another web site.
- From Picasa 2: Get an image currently stored on the Picasa 2 server
- Windows XP: If you have Windows XP on your PC, you can make your POCA web album appear in Windows Explorer as if it were an local folder that you can drag and drop files into.
- Gallery Remote: Install an application on your Windows, Mac, or Linux PC that manages your files in your POCA web albums.
- Upload Applet: It is an applet that runs in your browser that allows you to select multiple files. Click Add Pictures. Use the shift key and mouse to select multiple pictures and click Add. Leave the "Resize pictures" box unchecked. Click Upload.
There is a quota of 100 megabytes per user. We can increase that limit if you run out of room.
To Add Sub-Albums
Note: You can have an unlimited number of sub-albums. You may want to think about how you will lay them out in advance. For example, you may have a sub-album named Events which has sub-albums for each event. You can move albums around afterward, but a little forethought can help you keep things organized
Navigate to the album where you want to create a sub-album
On the left side of your album page there is a "<album actions>" menu box. Select "Add Album" from that menu. (If "Add Album" is not on the list, you probably are not logged in.)
Enter a Name and Title for your sub album (usually they are the same)
Optionally, enter a short summary of what is in the album. Also add keywords for the search engine and long description if you wish.
Click Create
You can now tweak settings for the new sub-album that governs the ordering of the pictures and how the page will appear. Until you are a power-user, it is best to just leave those as-is.
To add pictures to the new sub-album, click the "Add Items" link in the "<album actions>" menu box.
